Bulelwa “Zahara” Mkutukana demanded payment after performing at a concert.
The promoter and event organizer of the Easter Special Night at the Underground Tavern in Mount Frere, Eastern Cape is accused of not paying the singer.
Talking about the artist who tied her to the show, the singer said: “I’ve known Vukani for many years and never expected him to do this to me.”
Musician Choco of kwaito group DbnNyts said he was the middleman connecting Zahara with the event organizers.
“Vukani asked me to link him to Zahara and she agreed to do a gig for R30,000. Vukani received money from the venue owner and paid it to Zahara’s brother and manager, Junior Mkutukana.”
“Her manager and brother let her down. He took the deposit but didn’t tell her. If he doesn’t get R21 000 on time, he has to tell her not to go on stage,” he added.
The singer’s sister said this amount of money made Zahara stress because she had to shoulder a lot of responsibilities.
“The kids are back in school. Bulelwa has to pay tuition and send money home. This is taking a toll on her and is really stressing her out because she’s been wasting her time. She canceled other bookings to accommodate a friend and she even charged a lower fee than usual,” the sister told ZiMoja.
Talking to ZiMoja, the promoter said Zahara will receive her money this week.
He said that the payment refusal was not intentional and that he would not destroy his brand with such a story.
“We had a problem at the office when an employee stole money that should have been paid to Zahara,” he said.
‘I arranged to have the money transferred to her on Thursday. I’m in the process of finding that guy.”
“I wouldn’t do that, I respect Zahara and I still want to work with her. I also worked hard to build a name only to get dirty because of some selfish person. The amount will be paid and I will deal with the matter internally at my office.”
