Irish Grinstead, best known as a member of the R&B girl group 702 during the 1990s, has passed away. The person in question was 43 years old.

Grinstead, who founded the musical group 702 with singers Kameelah Williams and LeMisha Grinstead, passed away on Saturday, according to Cory Taylor, a spokesman for 702. Taylor disseminated a message from LeMisha, Grinstead’s siblings and bandmates, which was later posted on the social media platform Instagram.

Grinstead had struggled with his health in the months before his death. In December 2022, 702 shared on Instagram that Grinstead was “on leave for serious medical reasons.” The nature of Grinstead’s medical problems was not revealed in the post.

“We hope that she will have a healthy and speedy recovery in the coming months,” the team wrote at the time.

“We ask that at this very difficult time, you please respect our privacy and continue to pray for us as Meelah and Misha continue to look forward and represent 702 for the upcoming performance in 2023.”

Grinstead became a household name in the music world thanks to her membership in the 702, a name inspired by the area code of the members’ hometown of Las Vegas. The group debuted in 1996 with the release of the gold-certified album “No Doubt,” which featured the hit single and Missy Elliott collaboration “Steelo.”

702 went on to release two more albums, the self-titled second album in 1999 and “Star” in 2003. The group’s album “702” sold 1 million copies and boasted the number-one single “Where My Girls At?”
