Ryan Bayldon Lumsden, a Gold Coast council member is currently aiding law enforcement officials in their investigation of the untimely passing of his stepfather, which occurred subsequent to a “disturbance” that took place within their family residence. On Wednesday, shortly after 3 p.m., police were summoned to a property located on Chiffley Place in Arundel, in response to reports of a “disturbance.” Upon arrival, emergency services discovered the council member, Ryan Bayldon-Lumsden’s stepfather, who is believed to have been in his late 50s, unconscious. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the individual could not be resuscitated.
It has been reported that Bayldon-Lumsden is currently cooperating with the police in their ongoing investigation. He was escorted by law enforcement officials while wearing a blue forensic suit and paper bags over his hands. A crime scene has been established and the police are continuing their inquiries. Detectives and forensic officers will remain at the location throughout the night. Bayldon-Lumsden is a member of Gold Coast City’s Division 7 and was elected in 2020. Prior to the incident, he had shared images of a ‘Walk or Wheel Wednesday’ event at Arundel State School, which he described as a ‘beautiful’ day.
Neighbour Kim Thompson described Mr Bayldon-Lumsden as a ‘beautiful, beautiful person’.
‘My first fear was something had happened to Ryan because he is a beautiful, beautiful person, so I was hoping nothing happened to him,’ Ms Thompson told ABC News.
‘He would be the one I know the most, he’s very active in the community in a really, really lovely way — everyone knows and loves him.’
